Professor Neil Thompson BA(Hons), CQSW, MBA, PhD, DLitt, QDR, FHEA, FCIPD, FRSA, Director of Avenue Consulting Ltd, has many years' experience of providing expert witness services in a number of legal proceedings. He has been appointed by both defendants and claimants and has acted as a single joint expert. The cases he has been involved with have involved various aspects of social work and social care as well as matters relating to stress and personal injury, bullying and harassment and discrimination. He has provided reports for court and joint statements and has also given oral testimony in court. He is a member of the Society of Expert Witnesses.
Neil has held full or honorary professorships at four UK Universities and has established himself as a leading author and thinker in British social work. The award of a higher doctorate (a Doctor of Letters or DLItt) in 2010 established him as one of the most highly qualified people in his field in the world. He has over 150 publications to his name, including 31 books, many of which are bestsellers. He has been a speaker at conferences and seminars in the UK, Ireland, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Greece, the Czech Republic, Hong Kong, India, Canada, the United States and Australia. He has served as the editor of the British Journal of Occupational Learning and the US-based international journal, Illness, Crisis & Loss and was previously a member of the editorial board of the British Journal of Social Work.
