Training Resource Packs
By Ian Crompton and Neil Thompson

The implementation of this Act in October 2000 presented major challenges to public authorities applicable to not only central and local government, but also potentially to any organisation which fulfils a public duty. This important new piece of legislation has placed a number of new duties on public authorities. It has been recognised as one of the most significant and far-ranging pieces of legislation in relation to organisations which fulfil public duties.
This training resource pack provides an introduction to the Act, its main provisions, its historical and political background and its implications for policy and practice. This material is presented so that anyone considering undertaking training on the Act can feel better informed and more confident about the topic.
In addition to this background material, the pack contains a number of exercises that can be used as a basis of training programmes. They have been written in such a way as to be easily used by less experienced trainers. These exercises are supported by overhead transparencies.
The pack also includes a guide to further reading and a list of relevant organisations and websites so that users of the pack can use it as a foundation for further research and learning.
… the explanations, content and exercises have been written with recognition that organisations and individuals need a flexible approach to training packs. I recommend that this is purchased and used'
