Training Resource Packs
The Intelligent Organisation
By Neil Thompson and Ros Harrison

The idea that organisations should maximise their potential for learning is not a new one. However, this pack goes further than simply serving the importance of learning. It concentrates on three main areas of intelligence. First, it addresses organisational intelligence - the ability of an organisation and all within it to learn from their experiences. This is closely linked to the important ideas of intellectual capital and knowledge management, key issues in this information age. Second, the pack addresses emotional intelligence. The term 'emotional intelligence' has become something of a fashionable idea in recent years. However, this has often led to it being oversimplified as a concept. The pack therefore explores what emotional intelligence is, why it is important in the workplace and how it can be developed. Third, the pack also explores the emerging idea of 'spiritual intelligence'. This refers to the importance of meaning and direction in people's lives in general and in particular in the workplace. It is argued that an organisation will not get the best out of its staff if it does not support them in finding meaning and purpose in what they do at work.
