Training Resource Packs
![]()
By Peter Gilbert and Neil Thompson
In recent years, it has become well established that an organisation's most important resource is its human resource - its people. This pack is geared towards maximising the potential of people within an organisation. First it addresses issues relating to supervision. Managerial supervision can be seen as an important means of maximising the potential of individual employees by ensuring that they are clear about their responsibilities and well equipped to fulfil them. Leadership fulfils a parallel function but instead of being carried out on an individual basis, leadership relates to groups of people - teams, sections or even whole organisations. Leadership is increasingly being recognised as a vitally important part of management and the successful running of organisations.
This pack contains background information giving details about the underpinning
theory base relating to both supervision and leadership. Carefully designed
to avoid the danger of oversimplification that some other approaches to
these issues adopt, the ideas are presented clearly and helpfully, but
in ways that do not insult the reader's intelligence.
The pack provides sufficient material to help establish the importance
of leadership and supervision and to give confidence to anyone considering
running a training course on supervision or leadership, or both.
The pack also contains a number of exercises that can be used to form the basis of training programmes. These are supported by overhead transparencies and a number of case studies of famous leaders.
The pack also contains a guide to further reading and details of relevant organisations and websites so that users of the pack can use it as a foundation for further research and learning.
